Unknown reasons led to a private Cessna aircraft crashing into the Baltic Sea off the coast of Latvia

To follow the aircraft on its erratic flight, which started in southern Spain, NATO jets were dispatched.

According to officials, the jet, which is thought to have had four passengers on board, was scheduled to arrive in Cologne, Germany, but instead took off towards the Baltic Sea.

According to NATO pilots and Swedish officials watching the aircraft, nobody could be seen in the cockpit.

The Latvian Civil Aviation Authority issued a statement stating, “The aircraft was traveling from Spain to Cologne, however, the aircraft changed its flight path throughout the journey.

It stated that the crew of the Cessna 551 could not be reached by air traffic authorities and added that the aircraft was registered in Austria.
