Plane traveling between Chile and Paraguay makes an emergency landing after being damaged during a storm

A Latam plane traveling between the capitals of Chile and Paraguay had to make an emergency landing in Asuncion on Wednesday after going through “severe weather conditions during its flight path,” the airline told CNN in a statement on Thursday.

The procedure “went smoothly” and “both passengers and crew are in good condition,” the statement said. The airline also said it regretted “the inconvenience this weather situation may have caused its passengers.”

Telefuturo reported that 48 people were traveling on the flight and images obtained by the station show the aircraft damaged, with the nose missing and the windshield damaged.

The General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics of Chile (DGAC), informed in a statement on Thursday that the Paraguayan aeronautics authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident and that a team of specialists from the Chilean entity “will be on the ground to collaborate with this investigative process”.
